    Car Wax

    • What Is It?

      This is one of the most common methods of protection in which the wax forms a protective layer over the paint. Car waxes are liquids or pastes made from a substance called “Carnauba” which comes from a tropical plant native to Brazil; this is why it is often referred to as Carnauba Wax. The wax provides a glossier and deeper shine as compared to paint sealants.

      However, there is a downside which is its inability to provide a very lasting and durable shine as compared to other methods. This is due to the mono-polymers in the wax being susceptible to heat and being more soluble in water.

    • Durability

      Most waxes provide 1-3 months of protection in a climate like Singapore.

    Paint Sealants (Synthetic Car Wax)

    • What Is It?

      Paint sealants are also called Synthetic car wax. They are made from manmade polymers and synthetics unlike the more “natural” Carnauba car wax.

    • Shortfall

      However, unlike its counterpart, it does not give the deep and rich shine instead it gives the more plastic and glass look. The second disadvantage is that some wax products contain paraffin and have abrasive particles. At the same time, the oily-wax attracts dust particles causing us to mix these dust particles into our clear coats causing micro-scratches to the paintwork.

    • Durability

      Paint sealants are made to mimic the properties of Carnauba car wax giving the shine and this time being more durable and lasting compared to Carnauba car wax, being able to maintain its shine for 4-6 months.

    Glazing

    • What Is It?

      A glaze is a shine enhancing method to fill in any remaining imperfections or flaws in a car’s paint surface. Glazes are usually used by some car detailing shops to prefect freshly painted surfaces before the vehicle is handed over to the customers. By filling in these imperfections, light is being more evenly symmetrically reflected, giving the car its shine.

    • Shortfall

      However, a glaze does not have protective qualities like a wax. Also, rain will remove most glazes easily.

    • Durability

      In fact, the glaze has the lowest lifespan of shine out of the above methods of car detailing which lasts for 1-2 weeks.

    Car Polish

    • What Is It?

      Polishes are liquids that contain very fine abrasives that are designed to cut and refine the clearcoat of a car during a car’s polishing process. In essence, by using the polish one will be shaving or smoothing the paint down at a microscopic level. Unlike glazes which fill up the microscopic gaps, car polishes use an abrasive action to remove very fine layers of the top coat protection to flatten out the surface to ensure and equal reflection of the light and thus a highly polished look.

      However, when used too often, polish can eventually scrape off the clear-coat of the paint, causing the car needing to be repainted.

    • Durability

      Once or twice a year would be the safer rule of thumb as polishing your car too often can damage the paint coat of the car.

    • What Is It?

      Paint coatings are relatively new to the automobile industry. It offers the longest and most durable shine of all the car detailing methods. Like wax and paint sealants, it serves as a protective layer to the car. However, its viscosity is much thinner and it is designed to be more efficient in protecting a car’s paintwork thus being more lasting and durable than any other types of paint protection products on the market.

    • Shortfall

      This method is slightly more costly than other car paint protection methods.

    • Durability

      No re-application is required.
